Honk! Beep! Beep! A Note from the Chapter President - September 2022

Michael O'Connell

In our CAHL service area, commutes can range from 30 to 150 minutes. Since COVID-19, many of you commute from your kitchen to your office. Regardless, we all have time to think and can decide to be stressed, calm, frazzled, or relaxed. We can be emotionally reactive, angry, frustrated, and stressed, or we can make a choice and be mindful, relaxed, patient, and calm.

I encourage you to work on creating a mindful perspective with these ideas to consider during your commuting time.

Celebration Meals as the Key Ingredient to Fostering Belonging and Equity

Jeremy Hough
Jeremy Hough, CAHL Volunteer of the Year for Fostering Diversity and Inclusion, shares how John Muir Health began a program to offer celebration meals for holidays and cultural events to celebrate diversity through food.

When I joined John Muir Health in 2018, I was surprised to learn that there was no consistent, cross campus celebration of cultural and religious holidays in the hospital cafés beyond the standard Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for staff.

In 2019, I began a program to offer celebration meals for holidays and cultural events to celebrate diversity through food and to highlight different cuisines.

Regent's Message - September 2022

As we reach the end of summer, I trust that you and your teams have taken time away from work to rest and recharge with friends and family. As we transition to a new “steady state” phase of the pandemic with new CDC guidance , we continue to be faced with challenges with the uncertain state of the economy and inflationary pressures, ongoing workforce shortages, and high stress levels.
