This past month, Nwando Eze, MD, FACHE, FAAP and Chair of the CAHL Clinical Leadership Committee, co-presented at the ACHE Annual Congress with Robin Betts, RN, CPHQ. Their topic was “Moving From Person-Centered to Equity-Centered Care: Strategic and Practical Implementation of EID in a Large Healthcare System to Improve Health Disparity Outcomes.”

In the second quarter of 2023, CLC will host a Virtual ACHE approved Face to Face education panel titled “Improving the Health Status of Your Community: Climate Change & Population Health: An ESG Perspective.” We look forward to learning and educating our local members on how ESG affects clinical care delivery and next steps on how to improve clinical outcomes using this model.

Mentorship Committee volunteers are doing a fantastic job with onboarding new mentees and mentors. As we build in more structure to our mentorship committee, we were able to recruit a few additional volunteers and have assigned them for marketing and event planning roles.

Mentorship Highlights:

  • The Spring 2023 Formal Mentor Program, which began in March and runs for 3 months, comprises 40 mentor/mentee participants ranging from senior executives to students.
  • In Q1 2023, we were able to onboard 10 new mentors. One of our strategic goals is to have a diverse mentor pool based on healthcare systems, scope of work, and location to support our mentees.

The Higher Education Network (HEN) is running full steam ahead in preparation for the April 21 College Bowl, the annual academic contest for graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled in health care programs that are part of the ACHE Higher Education Network. This year’s event will be held in Irvine, CA at Concordia University, and this year the graduate case study competition will be paired with a matching undergraduate case study competition.

Students use their creativity and knowledge of healthcare administration to solve the case study. The case studies revolve around real issues faced by healthcare executives and their organizations, and students are judged by the quality of the analysis and their presentation

The JEDI Committee will host a Virtual Face to Face event in May to make the business case for DEI work. JEDI will also host an event series later this year that will focus on how to implement a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program. The series will include case studies of different organizations at different points in their journey and strategies for building momentum in DEI programs. The goal is to provide offerings that can help individuals and organizations at any stage of their DEI journey.

The JEDI Committee has also been having lots of conversations about the Diversity Toolkit that was released in 2021. We are creating a plan around elevating the toolkit to notify our members that it exists and supporting the ways in which it can be utilized. Another area of focus for the committee is to turn the lens of what progress needs to look like for the diversity composition of CAHL membership and what our constituent committees need in the area of JEDI. We will support the furthering of the JEDI agenda within the CAHL organization through the types of programming and events that we host throughout the year.

Watch for a future survey from the JEDI Committee, which aims to gather member feedback to identify areas that are important to them so programming can be built to support these needs.

JEDI also plans a JEDI Toolkit refresh, which will include:

  • Strategies for linking DEI objectives to successful business outcomes
  • Steps for implementing and sustaining a successful DEI strategy
  • Suggestions for how to launch, enhance, and revitalize DEI initiatives and build on core competencies
  • How to gain executive support for DEI progress.

The JEDI Committee is interested in hearing from our chapter members so that we can offer the types of programs and tools that will best serve the people we are here for – each of you.
