Regent’s Message | June 2023 – Call for Regent’s Awards Nominations

Jun 10, 2023 | Annual Meeting & Awards, Regent's Letter

Summer weather has come to California – I’m looking forward to the longer days and more opportunities to get outside. It’s also time for graduations – I wanted to send my congrats to all of the undergraduate and graduate students of healthcare administration programs finishing their degrees. I’ve met many amazing students during Higher Education Network campus visits over the past year and am eager to see you contribute to the healthcare administration profession, CAHL and ACHE.

Since my last newsletter in February, many CAHL members attended ACHE Congress in Chicago, which was a huge success with 5,000 attendees; the California state joint networking event with our two Southern California ACHE chapters the night before ACHE Congress starts was a big hit with 110+ members getting together to see old friends and make new connections.

I wanted to recognize two of our Northern California colleagues who were presented with 2 of the highest individual ACHE awards at ACHE Congress:

Paul Hoffman, LFACHE, received the Lifetime Service and Achievement Award, which was created to recognize Life Fellows and Retired Fellows who have made outstanding, nationally recognized contributions to advance the profession of healthcare management and ACHE.

Baljeet Sangha, FACHE, was honored with the prestigious Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award. One of ACHE’s highest individual awards, it recognizes early careerists for outstanding achievements in the field of healthcare management.

Finally, I wanted to congratulate the Chico State healthcare administration program and its students. Chico State’s two teams won first and second place in the undergraduate case study competition at the 2023 California ACHE College Bowl which took place on Friday, April 21, at Concordia University in Irvine.

Regent’s Awards

I am excited to kick-off the nomination process for the 2023-2024 Regent’s Awards for Northern and Central California. Regent’s Awards are an opportunity to recognize outstanding healthcare leaders who make significant contributions to advancement of healthcare management excellence and the achievement of ACHE’s goals.

Winners are presented their awards in person at the annual California Association of Healthcare Leaders (CAHL) member meeting, to be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Boundary Oaks Golf Course, Walnut Creek.

The Regent’s Advisory Council (RAC) selects awardees for both Early Career and Senior Executive Regent’s Awards. Individuals who reside within Northern and Central California can be nominated by colleagues or self-nominate for the award.

ACHE Regent’s Awards Criteria:

Early Career Award: A current member of ACHE residing within the Northern and Central California geographic area (i.e., 50 of California’s 58 counties, as far South as Kern County and San Luis Obispo and North to the Oregon border)

Senior Executive Award: A current Fellow member of ACHE residing within the Regent, Northern and Central California geography, who holds a CEO, COO, or other senior-level executive title within their organization

JEDI Award: I am thrilled to announce a new Regent’s Award to recognize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts with the goal to highlight and share these best practices. This award was developed with the CAHL Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee. Award winners will be selected by the RAC with participation from the JEDI committee. Thanks to Jeremy Hough and Mateika Martin, JEDI chair and vice chair, and the JEDI committee for their partnership in launching this new award!

The nomination deadline for all 3 awards is July 2, 2023, at 11:59PM. All nominations should be submitted directly to me at NCALRegent@gmail.com. The nomination forms for all the awards are posted here, or you can contact me for a copy of the forms at NCALRegent@gmail.com

Thank you to the 2023-2024 RAC for their service and support of ACHE and CAHL goals in the coming year, including the Regent’s Awards process.
