The California Association of Healthcare Leaders (CAHL) proudly announces the successful completion of our Spring 2024 formal mentorship program. From February 20 to June 7, 2024, our cohort of mentees engaged deeply with CAHL’s esteemed mentors—experienced healthcare leaders dedicated to guiding the next generation.
CAHL’s mentorship program offers a unique opportunity for mentees to develop leadership skills, navigate career paths, and enhance their understanding of the healthcare landscape. Participants gain valuable insights on healthcare industry entry, mastering interview techniques, conducting crucial conversations, and understanding healthcare politics. Furthermore, mentees learn to influence stakeholders, develop executive presence, and negotiate favorable outcomes. For many, this program is a pivotal step in their professional development, equipping them with the skills needed to transition to new roles within the industry.
Our distinguished mentors hold a variety of leadership titles with unique career paths, including Managers, Directors, Senior Vice Presidents, Chief Executive Officers, and Market Presidents. These leaders bring expertise from across California’s north and central valleys, the Bay Area, and beyond. They represent a diverse range of specialties, including operations, ambulatory care services, support services, facilities, academia, consulting, and executive coaching. Many mentors hail from prominent health systems such as Sutter Health, John Muir Health, NorthBay Healthcare, CommonSpirit Health, and Stanford Health Care, as well as leading consulting firms.
The Spring 2024 cohort comprised 20 mentors and 20 mentees. Reflecting on my experience as a participant in the Fall 2023 cohort, I can attest to the immense value this program provides in fostering healthcare leadership. I had the privilege of working with an Operations Director who, despite his demanding schedule, generously shared professional advice and guided me as I pursued my MHA program. He also provided strategic insights on preparing for the Board of Governors exam. The Mentorship Committee will also provide another formal mentor program in the fall, stay tuned for more information on when the applications open in August 2024.
We invite healthcare professionals who are current CAHL members and have a passion for mentoring future leaders to help us expand this impactful program. For more information on how to get involved, please visit our website: CAHL Mentorship Program.
